From Pig to Plate

Today, two 8 week old pigs showed up at the farm. I was surprised to learn that it only takes 6 months for the pigs to be ready to eat. These little ones (that will soon become quite big) will live on a high protein diet of leftover peanuts from a local food company, grass from the pasture, food scraps and pig food. Due to how fast pigs grow it is important for them to have a high protein diet.

While it is sad to think about these little ones being slaughtered in 6 months, they will live a great life on a small orchard in New Zealand. Animals are an important part of regenerative cropping systems and improving soil health.
